Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine, like acupuncture, is a powerful method of healing. Chinese herbs treat the underlying condition as defined by traditional diagnosis, and rarely cause unwanted side-effects.

Herbal medicine today is used as it was historically for preventative treatment and not necessarily reserved for acute illness or emergencies.

Chinese herbs are usually combined in formulas affecting the particular conditions and needs of each person. Formulas are available in a variety of forms: boiled into tea, liquid extracts, and in pills and powders. Herbs, more like foods than drugs, can supplement our diet and fortify our constitution as well as assist to prevent or remedy ailments.

The primary precaution using Chinese herbal medicine is to respect its complexity. Problems do not usually result from combinations of Chinese herbal therapy and Western medicine. Difficulties can arise, however, when the differences between approaches are ignored and individuals attempt to medicate themselves. Consult a qualified practitioner.
