What To Expect

All treatments consist of an interview and an acupuncture treatment. You can expect your first appointment to be an hour and a half. For follow-up appointments allow an hour and fifteen minutes of your time. The interview (whether the first appointment or follow-up appointments) will consist of all the things I have mentioned on the Your Treatment page – asking about family history, lifestyle, emotions, past and present concerns along with examining your pulse and tongue. Completing the client intake form below will facilitate your treatment:

Client Intake Form

In the hour prior to the appointment...

  • Do not brush your tongue which can alter the coating or texture of the tongue that is necessary in a Chinese medicine diagnosis.
  • Do not exercise vigorously which can alter your pulse, body temperature, and complexion.
  • Do not wear makeup or scents to the first appointment, if at all possible, since these can alter a complete exam.
  • Do not imbibe in caffeine, alcohol or other altering substances.
  • Do not eat right before the treatment which can alter your pulse.
  • Do eat within a couple hours of your appointment so that you do not feel hunger pangs and can relax during the treatment and though RARE will not experience “needle shock”. Some individuals, if nervous of the expectation of treatment, or have an aversion to needles, or have a sensitive digestion, can experience sweating, palpitations, cold limbs, or become faint.

Please contact us with any questions prior to the appointment or bring them to our first meeting.
